Quesadillas

Today's frugal Friday is a great meal idea. Quesadillas are one meal idea that I just haven't thought about until my friend Genieve whipped some up for us when we were visiting with them a couple of weekends ago. There are lots of different variations you can make depending on whats in your fridge; which makes this meal very frugal! For our Quesadilla we enjoyed the other night I started out with left over rice and added a can of maple beans, red peppers, salsa and a bit of melted cheese whiz.

Then I placed the mixtureo onto tortillas and sprinkled with cheese. Baked at 350 for 10 minutes or so and ta da!!
Fast and Frugal meal that can be enjoyed with sour cream, salsa and maybe a side salad. These puppies are defintaly going on my meal plan for the summer.

My yard sale find

This past Saturday the babe and I went out yard sale shopping. I found some great stuff but my favorite find is this thing!! I am not sure if it has a proper name so I will call it the easy drink server! That's right readers it is a long stick with 4 slots to place glasses in and serve them to your guest.

That afternoon I put it to work by offering my dear husband a cold glass of water! I can't wait to have company over so I can use it! hehe..

drying muffin cups

So ever since finding out about these great silicon muffin cups I have been making muffins once a week for us to enjoy at breakfast!

The only pain in the butt to these cups is getting them to dry. They would fill up our dish rack and were awkward to dry...that's until my very bright husband came up with this idea. After he washed them up he laid them on a cookie sheet and placed them in the oven at 200 to dry for about 10 minutes.

This trick has been great for getting the cups washed, dried and put away!

Make your own grocery bags!!

Here is a re-post on how to make your own grocery bags; these directions may come in more handy now that they are charging you to buy plastic bags here at one grocery store!

These hand bags were made from old T-shirts. Most often it turns out whenever I attend events I am usually left with an over sized T-shirt that I can only wear when 9 months pregnant. Some of these T-shirts are really nice and I just find that they sit in the closet or get used as rags. It wasn't until one day my good friend Laura told me that she had been making re usable grocery bags out of old T-shirts with a quick search on Google I found the directions and it became my number 2 sewing project. Here is how they turned out.

They can be used at the grocery store to put your groceries in. One thing they suggest in the directions is not loading them up with really heavy stuff like jugs of milk.
With the remaining scraps from the sleeves I put in a inside pocket on the inside back of the bag. This will be useful to put my grocery list, pen, calculator or anything else I may need to take to the store.

These bags may also be used for a diaper bag for when I am just running some quick errands. All my belongs plus some diapers (its big enough for the cloth diapers) and wipes can be placed in here. I also made this beautiful purple bag out of my favorite ZOOM T-shirt. I will be using this one as a purse as I made the handles a little larger to put over my shoulder.

The annoucement you have been waiting for!!

First let me start this post off by reminding you all that 1. I am not pregnant and 2. I didn't sign a cookbook contracted. Today I want to let all my readers know that I have started my own Etsy shop!! For those of you who are like "Etsy...what is that"?? Well let me tell you Etsy is an online site that allows people to buy and sell things homemade!!

After posting about starting up a card company called Scatter Joy Cards. I realized with the flood of emails that not all my readers have excesses to buy my cards. So I have been working on this site (long with hubby who did such a wonderful job putting together my banner!!) to offer my readers a chance to enhance the Kingdom of God by buying from our mission based card company!!

Our mission statement is on the site but just to give a little bit more information about us is that we are using our gifts (our talents) to enhance the kingdom of God by allowing all profits to go towards missions. That's missionaries and mission trips; so every card bought really does make a difference. Also the cool thing about our little on line shop is that we will send the card to the recipient with a personalized message from you (kind of like a flower shop). All you have to do is provide us with the message you want and we will hand write it in and the mailing address....pretty cool eh!

Please come on over to scatterjoycards.etsy.com to check out our selection...which isn't big right now we are just testing the water here!! But we have lots more in stock so don't hesitate to buy!! Hope to hear your feed back (good or bad)!

home made gift bags

So for the past couple of weeks hubby keeps coming home with "stuff" thats right all kinds of different things. His office has been spring cleaning so he has been bringing home whatever is being given. One of his finds for me was a huge box filled with paper bags. The only down fall to these bags is there is a company name written on them! But that hasn't stopped us from using them. Nothing a little bit of card stock can't cover up!

This gift was for my friends personal wedding shower. I used an ivory colored white to cover up the label then added Love and two bird cut outs...get it love birds!! heheheh...

I am pretty sure we have well over 200 of these bags! That should last us a couple of years!

End of Season Sale

Last year the babe was too little to wear sun screen or even be out in the sun for that matter so I didn't really have to dish out too much money. This year however is a different story as he wants to be outside all the time. And with lots of cancer risk sunscreen, big hats and light weight long shirts are the best for these hot summer days. However even in all the summer "bubble wrap" there are still areas of skin exposed that need this lovely stuff.

One trick that I am so thankful I did was during the end of the summer I pick a a bunch of sunscreen that was marked down. I happen to stumble on great brand names such as Aveno baby sunscreen marked down to $2.00 a jug , it was orignally priced over $15!!! I also got some sunscreen sticks which are great for the face and ears. Already I have placed two different kinds into a plastic bag (on that some Robeez came in) and have them in the diaper bag!

Now I know for the end of this summer that I will be LOOKING around for summer deals! One mom told me that right now is the time she is looking for winter stuff at our local thrift stores such as boots, hats, ski pants and of course ugly Christmas sweaters!!!

What other things you do guys get out of season I mean besides all the marked down holiday stuff for the years to come!

My new craft desk

Hey readers sorry I am late posting once again. I will do my very best to have a post up bright and early in the morning on Friday. I was a little under the weather today and only now am I regaining my strength. So for the next little while I am sure I am going to be bragging up all the great "treasures" we found during spring clean up week. For some of you who do not know spring clean up is a once a year advent where you can put ALL trash on the side of the road. This includes many house hold items that you don't feel like selling, have no use for anymore and want to get rid of them. We started the week off with these great finds another find we got right here in our neighborhood was this computer desk.

Before we brought it into the house we made sure it was the measurement we needed to fit in our spare room, praise God it was, and in no time it was in, washed up and was given a whole new purpose! It has now become my craft station.

I was able to put my sewing machine on one side. Also I got 3 baskets (pink, beige and blue) that fit so nicely where the keyboard would go. These hold materials, projects on the go and scraps.
And on the other side of the desk is my card making materials. The draws are great too for hiding away other materials that for some reason no matter how many times you organize they just look like a mess. This has been a wonderful find for me and I have already made a few projects here at my new station!

The phrase one mans trash is another mans treasure has a whole new meaning for me!

Free Stuff!!!

Oh this is going to be a great week. You see starting this Monday is spring clean up for us here. That means for the whole week you can put whatever you want to outside on the curb for the garbage trucks to take away. Many people put their stuff out early which means there are lots of cars, vans, and trucks circling the streets looking for treasure...Cause you all know the saying one mans trash is another mans treasure!!

So with that said let me show you two things we have picked up already (did I mention for FREE). The first one is a great night stand that I just love. I only just picked it up so nothing much is stored in it right now expect for my house binder.

And the next thing we just picked up tonight! I saw a big sign that said FREE on something that looked like a dresser on my way home tonight. I ran in to tell hubby to run up the street (only 3 houses) to take a look at it. With in minutes I saw him dashing by the window running towards the house with a wheel barrow. I wish I would have taken a picture of him and our neighbor hauling this thing down the street!

We did have to do some rearranging in the living room to get it to fit but it will work for the summer! I can't wait to see what other treasures we pick up! Good thing mom is coming up for the week and bringing the truck!
