Yard sale finds truned into gifts

I really really love this time of year; for many reasons of course. I love the hot weather (which we haven't been getting these days), long days, sun shine in the morning and of course YARD SALES!!!

There are so many things you can find out there....just like the saying goes one mans trash is another mans treasure! One thing you should have on yard sale day is a list of things you are looking for and a price that you are willing to pay. I put this list together based on what I look for at thrift stores. Mostly its kitchen things, books, movies, picture frames and some kids toys. I also have the price written down of how much these particular things would cost at the second hand store. That way I can tell if the yard sale is over priced.

Through out the summer I will be sharing with you readers things that I find at a yard sale what I have done with them. Here is my first thing. At the beginning of the yard sale season I found these 4 jars (which the man gave them to me for 0.25 cents each!!!). That same week the Mothers club I attend was having their year end brunch and I really wanted to give the nursery workers a gift from Eben and I. These were just the right thing. I whipped up a batch of my homemade granola, placed it in the washed jars, added a thank you note and handed them to the workers!!

They were a great hit for an even greater price!!

Sewing Project: baby gift

Lately with all my spare time I have been in my sewing room; creating new projects. This is one of my first projects that I did. They are diaper and wipe cases to give away as baby shower gifts.

I was given one of these from a friend when the baby was born and I love it. For quick trips out I simply pop this into my purse for a just in case diaper change! The pattern (found here) was easy cut out and the project was easy to make. So far I have made 5 and given them all away!!

Making baby gifts is a great way to save money! I got the material at a discount store for $1.99/yard and and it has made all 5 and will do a couple more! Thats not a bad price for a gift these days.

Kebabs

One of my favorite things to make on the BBQ are Kebabs! This year I have been finding TONS of stew meat both pork and beef marked down in the mornings. I find these are prefect for kebabs. So with the pork stew meat I picked up I tried this recipe; replacing the tomatoes with red pepper. They were so flavorful...this will for sure be on the menu again this summer!

Meal Plan

Two weeks without blogging...I can't believe it myself; where did the time go. I am so sorry that I haven't been blogging as much lately as usual but life has gotten busy. We also got a new computer so I am trying to learn how to get my pictures on here so I can blog with them.

I have also fallen off the pattern of blogging with the nicer weather now but don't worry I am still around and still creating and I have lots to share with you lovely readers. Some times as bloggers we don't think that many people are reading what we write because there are hardly any comments left but its days like last Friday when a wonderful reader announced to a crowd of people how much she loved my blog that makes me jump back on the blog wagon!!

So here is what I am cookin up this week

Monday: Spaghetti and garlic bread

Tuesday: Something on the grill (Kebabs)

Wednesday: Spaghetti pizza

Thursday: Taco salad

Friday: Picnic in the car (rice burritos)

Saturday: Wedding

Sunday: Fathers day
